Making Audio Waves on ABC
Communication alumnus, Brooke Olsen has recently had her audio piece aired on the ABC's radio program The Night Air.
The Night Air (TNA) is an audio adventure in which ideas, sounds and music are remixed around a new theme each week. TNA is a listening experience animated by dub versions of ABC Radio National's distinctive programming. Abstractly connected material is re-assembled with sonic glue - letting the listener's imagination build a new story.

A Touch of Hollywood on Broadway - Media Arts & Production Network Event
The Media Arts & Production (MAP) Network is having its first Alumni Film Night and we want you to come and share a drink with us and toast your successes!
UTS alumni Kathy Drayton (director) and Anna Cranney (editor), will screen their multi-award winning documentary, GIRL IN A MIRROR, about photographer Carol Jerryms. And WOBBEGONG, a short drama directed by alumnus Owen Trevor, and produced by alumnus Lucas Jenner, will also screen.
There will be a short Q + A after the screenings, followed by drinks for alumni and MAP staff and students.
Program Director and event organiser, Gillian Leahy, hopes this will become a regular six-monthly occasion and encourages alumni to make suggestions for upcoming events and screenings. Email Gillian.Leahy@uts.edu.au with your ideas.

UTSpeaks FREE Public Lecture: Greener By Design
With a growing global population always needing and wanting more, the throw-away-and-replace consumer mentality cannot continue. How can 'greener' designs contribute to a sustainable future?
UTSpeaks is a free public lecture series presented by UTS experts discussing a range of important issues confronting contemporary Australia. This public lecture reveals the prime role that design plays in determining how sustainable and recyclable our manufactured goods can be. It also explains how designers of all kinds can be at the vanguard of finding new ways to do more with less, recycle what we already have, and achieve sustainable consumerism.

Douglas Tomkin is UTS Design Head of School with more than 30 years working in the industrial design field and as a design academic in Australia, the United Kingdom and Asia.

UTS China Research Centre Public Lecture
This FREE seminar discusses the development of the Free Trade Agreement between Australia and the People's Republic of China. The Agreement stands as the single most important government-to-government agreement of the times.
Graeme Meehan has been deputy head of the China Free Trade Agreement Task Force at the Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade since July 2005. Before this, he worked as Senior Adviser, Asia, in the International Division of the Department of the Prime Minister and Cabinet. Graeme will present the latest progress on the FTA in his seminar.
Graeme speaks Chinese fluently and has had a long association with China. Most recently, he was Deputy Representative at the Australian Commerce and Industry Office in Taipei (2002-2004) and, before that, was First Secretary, then Counsellor at the Australian Embassy in Beijing (1998-2001). After studying and working in Shanghai for a number of years, Graeme joined the Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade in 1990. He first worked in the USSR section (1990), and then in the China Section (1991-1992), before working in Taipei from 1993 to 1995. After returning from Taipei, he worked on Taiwan issues in Canberra from 1996 to 1997.

The Science of Bubbles - Science Network Wine Tasting

Put Tuesday 11 September in your diaries, because it's the date set for The Science of Bubbles - the first Science alumni wine and cheese tasting night!
The event is hosted by Professor Tony Baker and UTS alumnus Toni Paterson, winner of the "Madame Lily Bollinger Medal" for excellence in wine tasting; author of the consumer wine guide Wine: What to drink in 2006; and Australia's youngest and only resident female Master of Wine.
Professor Baker will reveal the surprising health benefits of indulging in a glass of bubbly, while Toni will take guests through a series of sparkling white and red wines from Australia's premium wine growing regions with cheese to complement each wine tasted.
A fun and interesting evening not to be missed!

Anthony completed his General Nursing Training at Westmead Hospital in Sydney in 1982. He continued to work as a Registered Nurse in the Intensive Care unit at Westmead Hospital, Sydney, until he left full time employment to pursue a B.Sc (Biomedical Science) at UTS's Gore Hill Campus.
Following a successful three years of study from which Anthony graduated (1988) with a Credit, he began his career in the Pharmaceutical Industry with Sandoz Pharma in Clinical Research (1990). In the early years of Anthony's time in the Pharma industry, he completed a Masters of Science (Thesis) from the UTS.
Over the last 16 years Anthony has held several roles (Clinical Research, Development, Marketing & Sales, Business Management) and functions within the Novartis Pharma Company - a Swiss based company, formed in 1997 from the merger of Ciba Geigy & Sandoz. His roles within Novartis Pharma have seen Anthony working nationally, based in Sydney; globally - in Basel, Switzerland; and regionally (Asia-Pacific) in Singapore.
For the last two years, Anthony has held the Global Strategic Marketing and Sales function within Intendis GmbH, a stand-alone daughter company of Schering AG. One of his biggest achievements to date is establishing Intendis GmbH, and developing a competitive Global Marketing and Sales Team, focussed on performance objectives. The first year sales grew 11%, to total €223 million.
