UTS:Alumni Malaysia and Shanghai Networking Trip
Put 17 January 2007 in your diaries! For the first time, the UTS:Alumni Malaysian Chapter (UTSAAMC) will organize a field trip to visit UTS alumni in Shanghai, China and you are invited to take part in this inaugural trip.
This trip is to create and foster a closer alumni relationship between Malaysia and Shanghai Chapters. A day trip to visit Sydney Institute of Language and Commerce, a collaboration between University of Technology Sydney and Shanghai University, followed by a super-networking dinner with Shanghai Alumni will also be arranged in conjunction with this trip.

The UTS:Alumni Awards are held to celebrate alumni whose achievements and services to the community have brought credit to the university. We call on you as graduates of University to nominate your fellow alumni or yourself for a prestigious UTS Alumni Award.

*Chancellor's Medallion of Excellence
Honours alumni who have exhibited exceptional professional achievement or service to the university. A single award will be made at the discretion of the selection committee.
*Alumni Leadership Award
Recognises the contribution alumni make as volunteers within the alumni community particularly through their volunteer efforts.
*Professional Achievement Award
Recognises superior achievement in an industry or professional field and sets an inspirational example for future young alumni.
* Young Alumni Award
Recognises a young alumni for significant achievement in their field of endeavour and who is considered a role model for coming alumni. Up to nine Faculty based awards will be made based on nominations in 2007 onwards.

UTS Writing graduates receive Australia Council's Literature Board Grants
Several recent graduates of the UTS Writing program have just received Literature Board Grants from the Australia Council for 2007.
Congratulations to Wendy Champagne, awarded an Emerging Writers New Work Grant for literary non-fiction; Adam Gibson, awarded an Emerging Writers New Work Grant for fiction; Lisbeth Sommer, also awarded an Emerging Writers New Work Grant for fiction; Kathryn Heyman, awarded an Established Writers New Work Grant for fiction; and Peter Minter, awarded and Established Writers New Work Grant for poetry.

Career counselling for alumni
Career counselling for alumni is now available on Wednesdays and Thursdays from 5-6pm.
Experienced UTS career counsellors can help with a range of career-related questions, such as:
- What are employers looking for?
- What sort of work am I suited to?
- How can I best market myself to employers?
- What's involved in changing careers?
- What can I be doing now to develop my career?
UTS offers this service to registered alumni for $77 (incl GST) per hour, which represents a discount of approximately 35% on standard fees. As has always been the case, this service is offered free to ex-students within one year of graduating. Shanghai Alumni Network
The UTS Shanghai Alumni Network is being formed. The Network is a way of providing opportunities for alumni networking, personal and career development and expanding UTS:Alumni's international involvement with UTS graduates.

UTS:Alumni are launching the NEW online interactive member area for alumni in 2007.
The online interactive member area features a business directory where you can list free of charge your business or professional details, plus you will have the ability to view and update your details as they appear in our database and join alumni networks.
The business directory is just the beginning. From early 2007, alumni will be able to access e-communities too, allowing you to chat and network with fellow UTS alumni and keep in touch with your UTS faculties.

Alumni discounts at the UTS Traditional Chinese Medicine Clinic
At UTS's Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM) Clinic UTS:Alumni members can access acupuncture, Chinese remedial massage (tuina), and Chinese herbal medicine services at the student and staff rate. Treatment is by 4th year TCM students under the full supervision of experienced traditional Chinese medicine practitioners.

Postgraduate Scholarship Study in Scotland
The British Council is offering the opportunity for scholarships in postgraduate Study in Scotland.
Applications for the Scotland scholarship scheme are now open!
This post graduate scholarship is offered to Australians between 25-35 years of age in science, technology and the creative industries to study in any institution in Scotland in the 2007/08 academic year. The scholarship offers full tuition fees, living allowance and return economy air fare.

BUSINESS CHINESE 1
Learn from our skilled professionals with first hand knowledge of contemporary China and the current Chinese business environment!
Learn basic vocabulary, local knowledge and culture, and linguistic strategies for managing business opportunities in China, including information on key cities and industries and the Chinese cultural and commercial environment.
The courses are offered by the Institute for International Studies, at the University of Technology, Sydney and are structured as 26 hour Modules over 4 weeks.
Both short courses are designed for Business Executives who want to learn strategies in doing business with the one of the world's most dynamic economies and regions. Whether you are a beginner or simply want to develop your Chinese business skills, both courses are tailored to maximise your Chinese language skills and Chinese business practices. The courses are offered by invitation only and are not advertised to the general public.

UTS:Australian Centre for Independent Journalism is offering Shorthand and Speed Development short courses.

Journalists, editors, personal assistants, students or anyone needing to increase their shorthand speeds will benefit.

The UTS Graduate School of Business (GSB) invites all UTS graduates interested in postgraduate study to attend the Business Faculty's postgraduate information evening.
The GSB is one of Australia's largest providers of postgraduate courses in Accounting, Finance, Economics, Leisure, Sport, Tourism, Management and Marketing.
This session is designed to give graduates the opportunity to meet with academics in their area of interest, discuss the application process with student administration and network with fellow prospective postgrad students in a relaxed environment. Refreshments will be served.
