We are looking for your input on a new alumni project

We are seeking your input with the development of a new alumni project which will be of benefit to the whole University.

As such we are seeking participants for two focus groups, lasting no more than one hour, to be held at the UTS Tower Building on Monday 13 February and Thursday 16 February from 6 to 7 pm.

We would very much welcome your input at either one of these groups. Travel expenses will be reimbursed and there will be light food/wine served.

Women's sport baton passes to Australia

Australia is stepping into a leadership role in women's sport development following a successful bid by the University of Technology, Sydney to host the 2010 World Conference on Women and Sport.

With the support of the NSW Government UTS has been chosen by the International Working Group on Women and Sport (IWG) as the base for the IWG Secretariat for the next four years, culminating in the 2010 World Conference to be held at Sydney Olympic Park.

Kokoda tourist plan to protect an icon of wartime sacrifice

In World War II the Kokoda Track was the scene of a critical battle to halt the Japanese advance in Papua New Guinea, but now the battle being fought is to help an iconic region deal with the pressure of tourism.

With the help of an ecotourism expert from the University of Technology, Sydney a draft Ecotrekking Strategy has been completed for the Kokoda Track, the punishing route across the Owen Stanley Ranges that has become a place of pilgrimage for many Australians.

UTS helps set the standard for knowledge management

UTS leadership in information and knowledge management is at the centre of a world-first Australian standard in knowledge management, issued recently by Standards Australia.

Knowledge Management: a Guide (AS 5037-2005) has been hailed by Australia's peak standards body as a major step forward for the creative economy and the likely basis for similar standards in other countries.

Second wine and cheese appreciation evening

The second wine and cheese appreciation evening will take place on Tuesday 21st February 2006.

Host Paul Foster, Wine Master from the Wine Society, will take guests through red and white wines beginning with champagne. Wines will be selected from premium wine growing regions, and specially selected cheeses will compliment each wine.

Tasting notes from the Wine Master will be provided to each guest on the night.

The venue will be the Sky Room at the Blacket Hotel, affording a stunning city backdrop for the evening’s events.

When: Tuesday 21st Feburuay 2006, 6-8pm
Where: Sky Room, level 9, Blacket Hotel, Corner George and King Street, Sydney
Cost: $35 per person, guests welcome

Professional development seminar 'Managing Career Change' 4 April 2006

In April 2006 the UTS Alumni Office will host the first in a series of professional development seminars on the topic of Managing Career Change.

Held in the UTS Gallery Function Centre with Marijke Wright, Careers Councillor with the UTS Careers Service, the seminar will help you manage your career change by:

-Analysing the reasons for change
-Assessing the implications and process of change
-Managing successful outcomes

When: 4th April 2006
Time: 6pm for 6.30pm start, until 8pm

Taking place on Wednesday 26th April 2006, the inaugural UTS Alumni Awards will celebrate alumni whose professional achievements and services to the community have brought credit to the university.

As a UTS graduate we strongly encourage you to nominate fellow alumni or yourself for one of these Awards.

Alumni reunion in New York City

UTS alumni in New York are cordially invited to the first UTS alumni reunion which will take place on Wednesday 8 March 2006 at the Australian Consulate in NYC.

The reunion will include a presentation by Dr Alex Byrne (Vice-President, Alumni and Development, UTS) followed by a Hedge Fund Panel introduced by Anthony Ritossa of Barclays Capital.

2006 Visual Communication Alumni Reunion

The Visual Communication degree course will celebrate 30 years at UTS with a reunion for all its graduates and staff. Taking place in the UTS Gallery, the reunion will provide an opportunity for UTS:Visual Communication to showcase the work of some 25 leading practitioners - all UTS Visual Communication graduates.

Public design talk: What's the big idea? - Vince Frost

Alumni are invited to attend "What's the big idea?", a public talk by acclaimed designer Vince Frost at UTS on Wednesday 1 March 2006.

This talk coincides with Object Gallery's landmark retrospective of Frost's work, Frost*bite: Graphic ideas by Vince Frost, on show at the Sydney Opera House Exhibition Hall from 7 January - 12 March 2006.

Work/Play: 30 Years of Visual Communication

Opening at the UTS Gallery on 28 February,Work/Play: 30 years of Visual Communication, will celebrate the work of 25 leading practitioners - all UTS Visual Communication graduates whose careers span up to 30 years.

Work/Play will explore all uses of visual communication in fields ranging from graphic design, advertising, animation and new media to publications, photography, illustration, broadcast and exhibition design.

When: 28 February to 24 March 2006

UTS graduates' exhibition opening

UTS Alumni and 2005 Golden Eye Award winner, Melissa Azizi (Master of Media Arts and Production 2004) and fellow filmmaker Will Kuether (Master of Media Arts and Production 2003) have founded a young think-tank production company, CineDream, intent on showcasing the fusion of film and art in various platforms.

Their first show is 'DreamFormations: Inversion I Transformation I Excretion', an exhibition showcasing unique and dreamy etchings, 8mm canvas prints and 16mm photographs, which runs from February 8 to 19th. Each piece is inspired by dream theory and reflects the artists daydream or nightmare.

When: Opening Night February 8th, 2006 6pm - 8pm. Exhibition runs until February 19th.

Enjoy a beautiful afternoon of sailing on Sydney Harbour with up to 5 friends and a skipper provided. Impulse is UTS Union’s yacht and it’s there to be used by alumni, students and staff alike.

When: Friday and Sunday afternoons (all year round except for public holidays)
