Read the full story UTS nurtures a new crop of research tall poppies Two of UTS's young researchers were honoured recently when they were named 2005 NSW Young Tall Poppy Award winners. The Young Tall Poppy awards were established by the Australian Institute of Political science to promote awareness of Australia's intellectual achievements among the Australian public. Simon Walsh and Dominic Dowling were recognised for their strong research record and for their community service. Professor Lynn Chenoweth of the UTS Faculty of Nursing, Midwifery and Health heads a team that has just begun a clinical trial of the benefits of patient management founded on careful observation and practical compassion. To read about the results and highlights of the October 2005 Awards please click below. 2005 Golden Eye Awards results ABC Women in Engineering Scholarship for UTS student Software Engineering student Astrid Zeman was recently awarded one of two of this year's ABC Women in Engineering Scholarships. The Scholarships are awarded nationally each year to women in their final year of study in Electrical Engineering who have an interest in broadcasting, telecommunications or information technology. Recipients receive a cash grant of $1500 and valuable industry experience in the exciting and challenging technology area of the ABC. More details UTS is University Sport East Region Overall Champion UTS was pronounced the Australian University Sport East Region Overall Champion at the recent 2005 Eastern University Sport Awards. This is the first time UTS has achieved such an accolade in the University sporting community. The award recognises the best performance overall based on the highest points total from various sporting events in the East region throughout the year, including the Eastern University Games. The award was given for a project linking her family’s ancestral home in Ireland and her experience of growing up in Australia. Bronwyn's work has been published alongside Maeve Binchy and Eavan Boland in 'Wee Girls: Women Writing from an Irish Perspective', and alongside Henry Lawson, Banjo Paterson and Ned Kelly in 'The Turning Waves: Poems and Songs of Irish Australia. ' Visual Communication graduate in International Photography Awards Sydney artist Caroline Nader was awarded an Honourable Mention in the International Photography Awards (IPA) 2005 Competition.
