NEW Master of Design

The Master of Design program now offer majors in specialized areas of design. Depending upon your current qualifications and experience in design, you may be able to graduate in as little as one year full time (or equivalent part time).

DAB research scholarships and teaching fellowships

The Faculty of Design, Architecture and Building is planning to further develop its research strengths by offering a range of scholarships and teaching fellowships. The awards will be tied to active researchers and will be linked to already existing specialisms.

UTS alumni appointed director of indigenous arts company

Acclaimed choreographer and dancer Marilyn Miller has been appointed the new Artistic Director of Kooemba Jdarra Indigenous Performing Arts Company. Marilyn graduated from UTS with a Bachelor of Business degree in 2004.

UTS finalist in port redevelopment competition

UTS architecture academics, alumni and students feature prominently in one of the five proposals selected as finalists in the East Darling Harbour urban design competition, an initiative by the NSW Government to redevelop the present site of the city's container port.

UTS develops all-in-one hand held device

Have you ever mixed up the TV remote with the stereo remote or tried to call someone from your ipod? Perhaps not, but wouldn't it be great to have one device, that fits in your pocket or handbag.

Peter Leijdekkers and Valerie Gay of the Faculty of Information Technology are developing an application for a personalised and context aware mobile device to do just that.

Women in Asia Conference

The Eighth Women in Asia Conference will be held at the University of Technology, Sydney from 26th to 28th September 2005.

The theme of this year's conference is "Shadow Lines", which has to do with movement across borders, borders that may be understood in many different ways and in many different contexts.

FREE architecture lecture

On 23 September Peter Davidson will give a talk on new modes of architectural design and construction approaches enabled by digital technology.

Peter graduated from UTS with a Bachelor of Architecture in 1980 and is director of the award winning LAB architectural studio, designers of Melbourne's Federation Square.

Harbour sailing for $30

Enjoy a beautiful afternoon of sailing on Sydney Harbour with up to 5 friends and a skipper provided. Impulse is UTS Union’s yacht and it’s there to be used by alumni, students and staff alike.

When: Friday and Sunday afternoons (all year round except for public holidays)
Time: 1pm to 4pm
Cost: $30 students, staff & alumni, $40 others
Includes: 3 hour sail & skipper
Venue: Double Bay Sailing Club

The Golf Day is a friendly competition played by academics, staff, students, and alumni. This fun day out is open to both male and female, beginners and the experienced and friends are welcome.

Indonesian alumni reception and IKAMA dinner

On Tuesday 20 September 2005 Indonesian alumni are invited to share an evening with fellow UTS and Insearch alumni at the UTS & Insearch alumni reception prior to the IKAMA dinner.

The annual IKAMA (Ikatan Alumni Association) dinner for Indonesian graduates of Australian universities will take place in the Grand Ballroom at the Shangri-La Hotel, Jakarta.

A limited amount of free tickets for the IKAMA dinner are available to UTS alumni.

Alumni end of year function

The 2005 annual alumni end of year function is set to be the biggest and best yet. Come along to experience a little taste of Bollywood right here on the UTS Campus on the evening of November 24, 2005. All alumni are invited to share in the celebrations with the current UTS executive, staff and fellow alum.

Anti VSU sentiment inspires leap from UTS Tower

In August two UTS student club members abseiled 100m down the UTS Tower to susped a banner displaying "No VSU: Save Uni Life".

The introduction of VSU (Voluntary Student Unionism) could mean vital funds and essential services provided by the University of Technology, Sydney's Union are slashed.
