Remember UTS in your will
UTS relies on the generous support of visionary people to help fulfil its mission of enhancing professional practice, serving the community and allowing students to reach their full personal and career potential.
Bequests are of lasting significance to UTS. By leaving a gift in your will, you will be helping to ensure UTS continues to be one of Australia's leading educational institutions. A bequest can be in the form of money, real estate, stocks, shares, artworks or goods. Bequests can be made for a specific purpose or left unrestricted, in which case, the University decides the most appropriate way to use the gift.
Substantial bequests may provide funds to endow or partially endow professorial chairs or fund vital research. No administrative charges are levied against either the capital or investment income of donations made to UTS endowment funds. This means that 100% of the funds earned by an endowment are used to support the nominated project. Endowment funds can be named after the benefactor or another designated person.
Bequests can also improve student facilities and allow UTS to embark on capital works that will enhance teaching and learning well into the future. In writing a will, the University recommends that benefactors seek professional advice from a solicitor or trustee company.
Making a bequest
A bequest to the University can be made by intending benefactors as set out below:
1) Unrestricted Bequest I give to the University of Technology, Sydney, (my estate) or (portion/the residue of my estate) or (the sum of $......) free of all duties thereon and direct that it be applied for the purposes of the University in such manner as the Council of the University may determine.
2) Specific Purpose Bequest I give to the University of Technology, Sydney, (my estate) or (portion/residue of my estate) or (the sum of $......) free of all duties thereon. I express the wish but without creating any binding trust that if practical this gift be applied toward…………………..
3) Directed Purpose Bequest I give to the University of Technology, Sydney, (my estate) or (portion/residue of my estate) or (the sum of $......) free of all duties thereon and direct it be applied for (state the purposes as widely as possible to avoid any difficulty in application).
In memoriam
Remember someone close to you and allow their memory to live on as you donate an annual prize, establish a scholarship or support a special project at UTS. We can work with you and your family to design the most appropriate way to honour the memory of your loved one.
Some examples of the ways we can do this are by establishing an endowed scholarship or prize, funding a specific piece of equipment or naming a lecture theatre or laboratory after your loved one.
Celebrate a special occasion
Whether it be your 50th Birthday, a wedding or any special occasion, you can make a difference by asking guests to donate to UTS instead of buying a gift. By supporting UTS in this way, you can provide educational opportunities for students.
Phone +61 2 9514 9861 for further information on any of the above ways to support UTS.
