Swiss-based Australian entrepreneur George Koukis (DipTech Commerce ’79) returns to UTS to share his remarkable story as founder of pioneering technology company Temenos at a special 'Meet the Entrepreneur' event at UTS on Wednesday evening 11 October 2017.

After arriving in Australia in 1971 with only a few pounds in his pocket and speaking barely a word of English, George Koukis went on to found the global banking software powerhouse Temenos. Today, more than 2,000 firms around the world, and 41 of the top 50 banks, use Temenos software, and it is Europe’s fourth largest software company, with a market capitalisation of more than US$5 billion.

As a passionate businessman, philanthropist and advocate for fostering future leaders, George will be sharing his insights and learnings in conversation with Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Innovation and Enterprise) and former IBM Chief Technologist, Professor Glenn Wightwick.

George Koukis biography

George KoukisBorn in Chalkis, Greece, George Koukis migrated to Australia aged 25 in 1971. While working by day, he studied a diploma of technology and commerce at UTS by night, followed by roles at Qantas Airways and software services group Management Science America.

In 1993 he bought a fledgling IT company, and transformed it into Temenos Group, a leading financial services software provider than is today one of Europe’s largest tech companies.

Koukis is an avid proponent of ethical leadership setting up the 'Future Leaders for the World' program, and a keen philanthropist, known for his support of medical and education initiatives.
