Privacy Policy

Graduates of UTS or any one of its antecedent institutions are automatically part of the university’s Alumni community.

UTS Advancement respects the importance of privacy and the security of your personal information. This privacy policy sets out the way we collect, hold, use and disclose your personal information and underpins our commitment to protecting your right to privacy.

Collecting your information

UTS actively maintains contact with you as an Alumni and will collect updated contact details from you for the purposes listed below. Additional information may also be requested, such as details about your ongoing employment or study. If you choose not to provide or update your information, it may not be possible for the university to maintain contact with you or process a particular request or benefit that you may be entitled to.

UTS may also collect information from publically available sources or from third parties, such as LinkedIn, Australia Post or Factiva.

UTS will use the information held about you for the following purposes:

  • to inform you about university news, courses, events
  • to inform you of and provide alumni benefits
  • to inform you of opportunities to engage with and support UTS
  • for benchmarking, analyses, quality assurance and planning purposes, including surveys
  • to develop and provide more tailored communications and customised services to you
  • to otherwise correspond with and maintain contact with you as required

Managing your information

Information held about you as an Alumni may be provided to industry partners or other service providers who are contracted by UTS to communicate with you on our behalf. This includes the distribution of communications to you that may be processed though overseas locations. Your information will not be disclosed otherwise by UTS without your consent unless required or permitted by law.

UTS will keep your information for the above purposes and as a record of communications with you. Records are kept by UTS to meet legal retention requirements.

Keeping your contact details up to date will ensure UTS can maintain contact with you.

You can make a request to access, correct, restrict the processing of or delete your information in certain circumstances. To make such a request, or make a complaint about how your information is handled, email the Advancement Unit (refer to contacts listed below).

If you are a donor, refer also to the Donor privacy notice.

You can unsubscribe to Alumni email or SMS communications at any time by following the unsubscribe options provided in those communications. You may also contact the Advancement Unit to unsubscribe from these or other forms of Alumni communication (refer to contacts listed below).

Unsubscribing from Alumni communications will not unsubscribe you from other communications you may have separately requested from UTS, such as marketing for potential courses of interest (refer to the student marketing and recruitment privacy notice), or if you have subscribed directly to a faculty to obtain their newsletters. You will need to unsubscribe separately in these cases.

You can refer any questions regarding this notice or make requests by emailing the Advancement Team at or by phone + 61 2 9514 9861.
